Believe it or not, West Coast Melee XXI starts a week from today!

Despite our difficulties with the reservation system at the hotel this year, we still managed to book a record number of rooms! We're anticipating a excellent turnout, and we're ready to go.

The format this year will remain almost exactly the same as previous years; Thursday games are warm-ups and don't count. Friday is open play for best records to qualify for "The Melee" (WCM's main tournament). Friday and Saturday will emphasize our single elimination mini-tournaments.

One change this year however relates to "The Melee". For the past several years we've taken the top 8 best records accumulated on Friday to play off with two scenarios on Saturday and the finals on Sunday for "The Melee" championship. This year, we're going to take the players from Friday with the top 16 best records (a true "sweet 16") and add a very short qualifying round to the "The Melee" on Saturday morning. This qualifying round on Saturday will be seeded based on Friday's play, and will be finished no later than noon. The 8 winners of the qualifying round will move on in "The Melee". The 8 losers will be able to enter directly into a late-starting mini-tournament that is designed to be finished by the end of the day.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all this coming week!
