We only had two members in attendance for the April O.C. Game Day at Brea, but we made the most of it. Bill Yuen and I squared off in the new Dispatches scenario “Demolition Menâ€. The scenario represents part of “Operation Rosselsprungâ€, the S.S. air-landing attack to capture Tito in 1944. “Demolition Men†has 7 S.S. squads landing in gliders assaulting a communications center held by a pretty stout contingent of partisans.
Bill took the Germans and landed his men without incident. After a very bloody assault with about 70% casualties on both sides, Bill’s S.S. troopers cleared the building for the win in the last CC phase. We flipped it around, and I took the Germans, but they came up short after another bloody, last CC phase assault. Both games came down to the final dice rolls. It must be balanced; I’ve lost as both sides. Congrats to Bill for his double win in two well-played games. This scenario is only 4.5 turns and a ton of fun. If you can get past the glider landing (which is very simple) this scenario is well worth the effort. Random rubble, flame and wind-direction rolls make it very replayable. I’ll tell you for sure you’re going to see this one in a mini at WCM.
Bill and I enjoyed our usual lunch at Millie’s. It was another great day of ASL.
