I’m pleased to report we had a solid six members at our O.C. Game Day at The Realm in Brea on Saturday.
Eric Visnowski’s Germans defeated Casta’s Americans in the Schwerepunkt scenario “The Reluctant Tigerâ€.
Blair Bellamy’s Germans defeated Drew Simon’s French in the new Out of the Attic scenario “Panzers Forwardâ€.
And my French had no better luck against Hank W.’s Germans in “Panzers Forwardâ€. Because our game wrapped up fairly quickly, we managed to squeeze in a second scenario from the Out of the Attic pack. Hank’s Germans defeated my British in “The Queens Prequelâ€.
All in all it was a tough day for the allies, and a good day to play the Germans. In “Panzers Forward†Drew and I had very similar set-ups. Not to take anything away from the fine play of Hank or Blair, but Drew and I both seemed to miss what it is the French need to do to win. We both thought it is quite winnable for both sides, but a little hard on the French if you haven’t played it before.
“The Queens Prequel†is the first of a series of three tournament-size scenarios covering three attacks on a German-held airfield in Italy. Hank and I played this one in about 2 hours, and the other two should play equally fast. I think two players could play all three in one Game Day. Excellent for a quick best-out-of-three contest. This scenario is quick, fun and interesting, and I’d like to play it again.
We adjourned in the early afternoon for our usual lunch next door at Millie’s. They had a 3 egg lobster omelet featured on their summer menu that proved to be a pretty good choice. We couldn't ask for a better day of ASL!
