We had four members in attendance for the August edition of The Barricades Project at the St. Crispin's Game Day in Anaheim.

The action resumed at the bottom of turn 4, with Dan Plachta and Dave Reinking commanding the Germans against me and Jim Cotugno as the Russians.

Jim had some bad luck when he pulled a red card on his 70mm OBA, eliminating the chance for OBA smoke to protect his strongpoint along the river. I was able to get several Smoke rounds down, including Smoking one of the main German kill stacks on the west side of the board.

On the east flank, Jim's Russians had run out of room to retreat, and without the Smoke barrage for coverage, got chopped up pretty badly. His troops are hanging on to every scrap of cover they can find. On the west flank the fighting has mostly settled down, with both attack and counter-attacks running out of steam , almost exactly along the original Russian/German start lines.

We were able to complete German turn 5 before calling it a day, and wrapped up at about 5:30. Needless to say, Jim and I are hoping to roll a “1” at the end of Russian turn 5!

There were several minatures games going on during the day, and two different role-playing groups played for several hour each. Our neighbors at the next table played “Check Your Six” and were having a lot of fun, as they usually do. We also enjoyed checking out a model of a 800mm German rail gun (including a lot of background information about its use during WWII.) Except for the ass-kicking our Russians are taking, it was a great day of ASL.
