We had 8 members, plus a cameo by Geoff Coward, for our inaugural Game Day at Gameology Games in Pasadena.
Dave Nicholas’ Germans defeated James Quinn’s British and Americans in “Panther Cul”.
Dan Plachta’s Japanese defeated Peter Strand’s Americans in “Tropic Lightning”.
And the remainder of us decided to take another crack at “The Living Dead”, the RB scenario from the Death to Fascism pack we played last week. This time Eric Visnowski and Ed Esparza took the defending Germans against me and Matt Cicero as the Russians.
The Germans bought a FT, HMG and a couple of MMG’s, and had a good, balanced set-up. We bought a FT and .50 Cal on the east side, and another FT for the west. Matt took the western force, and I took the eastern one. Our plan was simple: I set up a small fire base with the .50 cal south of Workshop 32. Its job was to block reinforcing Germans from south of the gully. Everything else went northwest into the Workshop. Matt took his entire force and rushed north along the rail line; the same attack Robert used last week. We got the jump on the German gully forces, and created a mismatch in the Workshop and the northwest factories. Ed launchd a counter-attack into the Workshop, and captured my .50 cal. But we were able to consolidate our positions in the factories, and that locked in the win for the Russians.
We all agreed this is a fun scenario. But after two playings I’m not sure it’s winnable for the Germans. ROAR shows it 1 to 0, pro-Russian. We think the playing area is just too large for the number of German squads.
Gameology Pasadena is an amazing store. Its absolutely huge; probably half again larger than any of our other venues. Parking is a little tricky. The store has about 20 spaces in the garage below the store. There’s also plenty of local 2 hour parking, if you need wait for a store space to open up. But the garage entry isn’t obvious, and I’ll get better directions to it for next time.
Food choices were interesting. Nick, Matt and I did some scouting before lunch, and we settled on a place called Daddy’s Chicken Shack. The food was affordable and delicious. The survivors retired to Pie ‘n Burger for dinner. I’d never been there, but it certainly lived up to the hype.
All in all, it was a great inaugural meeting for our new Game Day venue!
It was fun for an unbalanced dog.
