15th Annual Burning Wreck Barbecue

The date for our 15th Annual Burning Wreck Barbecue has been set:
Date: Saturday, October 28th
Time: 11:00 AM
Location: Stance Nixon’s house, 5349 E. Monlaco Road, Long Beach.
Cost: $10 for 2023 members*.
Food: The Club will cover the cost of pizzas for lunch and dinner at The Habit. As always, we’ll have the Club coolers stocked with complimentary ice cold soda and beer throughout the day.
* 2023 membership is $15.
There’s no point screwing with success. Our format will remain the same as our six previous years. Stance and Cheryl Nixon have agreed to once again open their home to us.
On the day of the event, we’ll pair up randomly. When you arrive, you will receive a raffle ticket. If you win your scenario, you will receive an additional raffle ticket. When all the games have cleared (which should all be around the same time considering we’re playing the same scenario) we will pull raffle tickets for prizes. And by receiving one ticket just for showing up, even if you lost your scenario, you could still be a winner!
Remember, this event is open to SoCalASL members *only*. You have to have your 2023 dues paid, which you can do at the door when you pay your entry fee.
We are sticking with our 3 step scenario selection process. In the first step, we will accept up to 3 scenario nominations from any member. I will post the scenario guidelines when when I put out the call for scenario nominations. But in a nutshell, a nominated scenario needs to be 1) fun 2) reasonably well balanced or slightly pro-attacker 3) combined arms 4) playable in about 6-7 hours. Anything smaller than 5 hours really isn’t meaty enough, any more than 7 hours is probably too large.
In the second step I will compile all the nominated and publish a list of choices. We will then begin a second round of voting where any member can vote for up to 3 scenarios with a ranking of 1st choice, 2nd choice and 3rd choice.
In the third step I will publish the three most popular scenarios and call for a third round of voting where each member can rank the 3 choices. From that list we’ll establish a winner, and that scenario will be played at the Barbecue.
I will call for scenario nominations in September. So break out your scenario books and start thinking!
