Greetings ASL Fans;
We had six members, including our old friend Dave Coleman, at the May edition of The Red Barricades Project. The committee of Jims (Aikens, Cotugno & Svette) once again commanded the Russians against Dan Plachta, John Lehman and Dave Coleman as the Germans.
We resumed combat at the bottom of turn 5, and played through turn 6 of the October 29 CG date. We rolled to continue into turn 7.
On the southwest flank, the Germans finally caught a break when I failed to pull a 5th consecutive black card for my 70mm OBA, and they pressed forward into the Bread Factory, but not much further. Also the river the fighting has mostly died down, but the Germans continued to press in the factories. The Russians pulled all the stops, hoping for a turn 6 ending, and opened up with a ton of hidden HMG’s and Guns to try to damage the Germans. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough, and our game-end roll failed. It will be time to resume with turn 7 next month.
We had a great time as always, and an interesting gamers lunch: beef stew, bread, cheese and salad. It was great to have Dave Coleman rejoin us after such a long absence. He says we'll be seeing much more of him.
And now for an important announcement:
We have decided, after nearly 4 years of continuously playing this CG, that it is time to take a break. Jim Cotugno and I have become very burned out playing the Russians for so long. But we still think there’s a lot of fighting to be had, and we’re not yet ready to concede.
So we have decided to put this CG on hiatus for a while. The Red Barricades Project will live on, however. We’ve regularly been getting well more than the necessary 4 players for this CG, and for a while we’ve talked about starting a second HASL to run concurrently with Red Barricades. So here’s what we’re going to do:
We are going to play through our current CG date, which should end at the June 14th meeting next month. At that point we’ll record everything and break it down. It will go on hiatus for the time being; to be resumed when Jim and I have regained our strength.
Starting in July I want to launch two entirely new CG’s. One of them will be Blood Reef Tarawa (with revised CG VC’s.) The other is… up to you guys. To relieve the burden on my game set, I’m thinking it should be Eastern or Western Front. So if you want to get into a brand new CG, now is the time to start thinking about that. I will post more on this next month. I’m thinking Budapest, VotG or another RB CG but I’m open to others. Really, it depends on what everyone wants to do. There’s only one requirement, after 4 years of defending as the Russians in RB, whatever CG Jim Cotugno and I are in, we’ll be attacking.
