We had four members and a cameo appearance by Scott Thompson for the May meeting of the Red Barricades Project. Jim Cotugno and I continued in command of the Russians against Dan Plachta and John Lehman commanding the Germans.

The October 27th CG date continued with Russian player turn one. The Germans had hit hard on the east flank, pushing on a broad front from the factories to the river, with a secondary attack on the Bread Factory in the southwest corner. They ran into a snag on the initial wind change DR however, when rain started, preventing Smoke.

Jim’s Russians on the east flank shot back and resisted, but for the most part the dice weren’t working in his favor. Things got worse for the Russians on this flank when the German 100mm OBA came down on the rubble of the Commissar’s House. On the west flank, my Russians in front of the Bread Factory took to the cellars. But in the center the Germans were thin; and thier line relied on two kill stacks to keep the Russians at bay. But those kill stacks couldn’t see into the factories, and I pushed the Russians forward against the thin German line in that sector.

Our Russians caught another break when it went to heavy rain at the start of turn two. The Germans continued to hold up their attack on the Bread Factory, and fell back out of the threatened factory in the center. But on the east flank, Dan continued to hammer Jim’s Russians hard, starting with a rocket barrage in the buildings between the Commissar’s House and the Kindergarten, and keeping the 100mm OBA coming down hot and fresh as well. Meanwhile, German armor pushed forward on the bluff along the river. In the center, the Russians were able to catch the German infantry outside the factory with an 80mm OBA, and killed a half track with an ATR.

We called it a day with the end of German player turn two. The dirt cup has at least a company of Russians in it, but there are some Germans in there as well. Plus the Russians have killed two German half tracks, so the CVP totals are probably closer than they look.

We had our usual ‘gamers lunch’ prepared by the St. Crispins irregulars. It was another great day in the barricades!
