Ferocious fighting resumed in the Barricades yesterday, with Dan Plachta’s Germans continuing their powerful assault between the Volga and the factory complex. The Russians on this flank, once again led by Jim Cotugno, withstood a murderous hammering from a German rocket barrage and a 100mm OBA module. In an attempt to relieve some pressure on our right, I sent my Russians forward in a counter attack through the central factories, while our 80mm OBA pounded one German kill stack and three 82mm mortars pounded another. On the right, Jim’s troops where hitting back where they could, and an 8-0 leader with an ATR, hunkered down in the rubble of the Commissar’s House, took out a German tank from the rear, while a Russian Crew immobilized another.
The Germans have now lost two half tracks and a tank, with another immobilized in a dangerously forward position. But Russian infantry losses have been heinous to this point, with two full companies already in the dirt cup. We called it a day at the end of German turn 3.
Unfortunately play went slowly with only 3 players, but we got one full turn in (not bad considering the huge number of units on the board.) We had our usual ‘gamer’s lunch’ compliments of the St Crispin Irregulars. It was another great day of ASL!
