    Greetings all,

We had five players in attendance for the Thanksgiving weekend edition of the San Diego Game Day at Jimmy Hansen’s house.

Rob Feinstein and Jimmy’s friend Al teamed up for a playing of “Priests on the Line”, with Rob’s Americans defeating Al’s Germans.

I took on Jimmy Hansen and Henry DeVries in “Tatras Salad” from the most recent Rally Point pack. This proved to be an excellent choice for 3 players, with Jimmy taking the Slovakian infantry, and Henry taking the French POW’s and the Slovakian armor. I took the attacking Germans. It is not a short scenario, and we finally called in a German victory on turn 6. By then it was almost 7:30 PM and we had been playing since 10:00 AM. It was a fun and interesting scenario (no surprise, it’s a Pete Shelling design) and I’d happily play it again as either side.

When we set up the sun was out and the day was warm, so we set up both games on the back patio instead of in the sun room. But once the sun went down it cooled down pretty fast. Rob and Al moved their game to the sun room and the comfort of snuggies, space heaters and hot tea. Henry, Jimmy and I (from Michigan, Chicago and Boston, respectively) thought we could tough it out and stayed on the patio. I dunno, by the time we wrapped up we were freezing our asses off. I won’t speak for Jimmy and Henry, but I was looking at that game in the sun room with a little bit of envy. ;)

We enjoyed our usual lunch at the Mexican restaurant down the street. It was another solid turn-out (especially given the date.) Certainly the San Diego Game Day, which has struggled at a couple other locations, has finally come into its own.

Since the 4th Saturday Game Days in San Diego and Burbank fall on Christmas Day, there will be no Game Day at either location in December. But we’ll be back in action on January 22nd.
