Well, we finally discovered a flaw in our much-touted Red Barricades Project set-up and breakdown system. It’s important that the individual in charge of transporting the components actually brings all of the components. When we assembled at St. Cripins to set up, we discovered that the dipshit in charge of bringing the components (yours truly) brought everything except the board with the unit locations marked on it.
Facing a two-hour delay while I retrieved said board, we opted instead to do something else. As Mike Cirrincione said, “All ASL is good.†Indeed it is. Dan Plachta and Stephan Tourville paired up for the ancient Dagger scenario “Brandenburger Bridgeâ€. After a slugfest of close combats, prisoner breakouts and back-and-forth hammering, Dan’s Russians emerged victorious over Stephan’s Germans. It was an incredibly close game and looked like a blast to play. I’m going to have to add the scenario to my play list.
And while Dan and Stephan were busy bitch-slapping each other at table 6, Mike Cirrincione took on me and Henry DeVries in “The Marketplace at Wormhoudt†(ASL Journal version) over at table 10. After a game that lasted 11 hours, Henry and I prevailed as the Brits over Mike’s Germans. It was a real barn-burner. Mike did a great job on the attack, and managed to keep his personal morale and ever-present good humor intact even when his 10-2 and two squads were gunned down in the street with a 3 KIA. We were the last group at St. Cripin’s to wrap up (at 10:30 PM).
During the day Nick Rusch joined us and stayed for dinner. It was great to see him. At the end of the day The Red Barricades Project may not have moved forward, but a lot of great ASL got played regardless. I had a blast as always.
The Red Barricades Project will resume next month (I promise.)
