We had six members plus a cameo from Nick Rusch and his son at the January edition of The Red Barricades Project. German team regulars Stephan Tourville, Mike Cirrincione and Dan Plachta faced off against me, Jim Cotugno and special guest star Scott Thompson as the Russians.
We resumed the action at the top of turn three of the 10/21 CG date. German progress was slow and steady, with Russian conscripts and some first line squads trading their lives for elite Germans. Although the German advances have been fairly limited, they’ve been able to maintain the 2/1 kill ratio they desperately need to achieve eventual victory. A fire had broken out at level one of the L25 work hall on turn 2. The Russians continued the fight on for the ground level even as the upper level was completely consumed. On turn 5 they finally abandoned the building, which was by then almost completely engulfed. Also on turn 5 the Russians launched a couple of local late-game counter-attacks to grab back a few stone locations. But the German kill stacks still have command of the battlefield, so those attacks will be very limited and probably costly.
We wrapped up play at the end of turn 5 and will complete the CG Date next month. St. Crispins had a great turnout as well; there were several miniatures games going on all day, including one encompassing the entire Wake Island battle.
After we boxed everything up, we broke out The Hero Card Game for a short playtest. That was quite fun as well.
