We had 6 members in attendance for the October edition of The Red Barricades Project at St. Crispin's Hall in Anaheim. It was a pleasure to welcome back Mike Cirrincione and Stephan Tourville, who joined Dan Plachta in command of the Germans against me and Jim Cotugno (and later Dave Reinking) on the Russian side.
We resumed the 10/23 Russian Night counter-attack at the top of turn 5. Casualties remained fairly light as the Russians consolidated their gains while trying to avoid German kill-stacks. At the completion of turn five the Germans offered to end the CG date. It was a tempting offer. We had finally dialed in our 80mm OBA on the German 10-3 kill-stack, and the Russians on the west side had the opportunity to capture a couple more stone building hexes. But the Germans were counter-attacking into one of the factories we’d taken and the Russian attack had pretty much run its course on the east side. So we agreed to accept their offer and end the CG date.
The final casualty tally was 8 Russian and 6.5 German squads dead. Leader casualties were lopsided though, the one 6+1 Russian leader dead against two 8-1 and three 8-0 German leaders. The Russians recaptured two factories and a couple of multi-hex buildings; more than enough for a CG date victory. Because the CG date ended fairly early in the day we did purchases and pulled chits for the 10/24 CG date. The Germans pulled another attack chit, and the Russians completed their set-up. We wrapped up just before 6:00 PM.
It was another great day in the Barricades.
