First, I want to welcome Jim Svette as the newest member of SoCalASL. Jim is a long-time player getting back into the game after a couple of interruptions (hmm, that sounds familiar.)

This month's meeting was intended to cover the interphase and set-up for our next CG date. After the slaughter of the 10/27 CG Date, both sides pulled an Idle chit for 10/28. For the 10/29 date the Germans pulled an attack chit, and the Russians went Idle again. So the fight will resume with the 10/29 date, and Jim Cotugno and I set up the Russian defenders.

While we were doing that, the German players; Dan Plachta and John Lehman, took on new member Jim Svette in the new Dispatches scenario “Strossgruppe Schlicter”, with Jim taking the defending Norwegians against Dan and John's Germans. This playing came down to the very last turn, with the Germans squeezing out a victory. Once Jim C. and I had the Russians set up, John and Dan went to work with the Germans. While they were working on that, Jim C. and I rebooted “Strossgruppe Schlicter”, with Jim taking the Norwegians against my Germans. Jim S. provided color commentary until he had to leave late in the PM. Our playing of the scenario wasn't that close, with my Germans having the game well in hand on turn 4. We concluded that unless the Norwegians set up very far back it's pretty unwinnable for them. Too bad, it's a cool, small, all-infantry scenario that would be perfect for a tournament.

Dan and John finished their German set-up, and we wrapped our day at about 7:00 PM. We had our usual “gamer's lunch' courtesy of the St. Crispin's Irregulars game group. The slaughter will resume next month.
