We had 5 members and a cameo appearance from Eric Visnowski for our June edition of The Red Barricades Project.

The Campaign Game has moved into an exciting phase: the October 23rd CG Date. This is the date when the Germans can enter anywhere along the west edge, putting the Bread Factory and Workshop 32 in play. Jim Cotugno and I, playing the Russians, made a bold decision. The Russian force is in good shape, with nearly 60 squads, nearly all of them elite or first line, with 18 leaders (including a 10-2 and three 9-2’s.) But the Russian ELR has fallen to “0”. The German force is small, about 30 squads, but almost entirely elite, and well led. We decided it was time to hit back, and pulled an Attack Chit. The Germans, whose ELR had fallen to “1” after the 10/22 date, decided to pull an Idle Chit. Thus the 10/23 CG will be a Russian Night counter-attack!

In the ASL hobby, nothing says that you’ve arrived as a player like being able to say “Red Barricades Russian Night counter-attack? Yeah, I’ve done that…” J It’s up there with your first beach landing on the road to ASL enlightenment.

So the Germans got started on their set-up. And because it’s Night, we knew it was going to take a while. While Dan Plachta, Stephan Tourville and Mike Cirrincione got started on that, Jim and I picked out the Journal scenario “All Down the Line” and got in a game of our own.

The scenario has been on my play list for quite a while. It turned out to be a good choice. Jim had played it before as the Brits, so he took the Germans. It’s a classic scenario of quality v. quantity. I (uncharacteristically) spread my attack out, and played fairly aggressively. I got a little lucky during the mid game and exited a turn early for the win. By that time the Germans were done setting up, and they re-booted the same scenario for themselves. So while Jim and I did our Russian set-up, Dan and Mike squared off for their game, with Mike winning as the Germans against Dan’s Brits.

As always we enjoyed our usual ‘gamer’s lunch’ and we wrapped up around 6:30. We’re all looking forward to the July meeting. It’s going to be epic.
