I’m pleased to report that we had 12 members in attendance for the January edition of our L.A. Game Day at Gameology.
Mike Cirrincione’s Russians defeated Nick Rusch’s Germans in “Baking Breadâ€.
My Germans defeated Bill Yuen’s Russians in “Knocking at the Front Doorâ€
Candice Juliano’s Germans defeated Rob Stai’s Russians in “Wintergerwitterâ€
Matt Cicero’s Germans defeated Scott Thompson’s Brits in “Mercury Risingâ€.
Dan Plachta’s Russians defeated Eric Visnowski’s Germans in “Le Diable Noirâ€.
Dave Butterfield’s Germans defeated Glenn Sellar’s British in “Monty’s Gambleâ€.
And since Glen and Dave’s game got over early enough, Glen took on Nick and Mike in “Joseph 351â€. That scenario was still going on when I left. I’ll let one of them fill you in on the results.
And we had a usual fine lunch next door at Marie Calendar’s. In a discussion among those in attendance, it was agreed that the L.A. Game Day would not take a hiatus for WCM, and would maintain its regular schedule for February and March.
I look forward to seeing everyone in February.

It is going to be close game, a real nail biter. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

January 5, 2009 at 9:01 pm #5544testuserMemberIt looked like a lot of fun.
How did that stupid melee turn out? Did the leader knife all the brokies or did it get reinforced?
January 6, 2009 at 1:24 am #5545David RosnerMemberThe melee got reinforced, and the Russian conscript squad died, but what a glorious death.
The melee messed up routing for Glenn and it also let Nick fall back to block Glenn's forces for exiting the board.

I still can't believe how broken units get handled in SK for melee. They just sit there and get stabbed until they die or the melee ends. Still, it seems fun enough.
January 14, 2009 at 4:29 pm #5547King ScottMemberCan you shoot into a melee in SK?
January 14, 2009 at 7:52 pm #5548David RosnerMemberThe rules don't say you can't. I have done it a time or two myself.
January 14, 2009 at 11:58 pm #5549Jim AikensKeymasterThat's exactly what happened in this instance. Glenn's Germans stationed on a hill with a MG fired into the melee breaking my Russian POW units (represented by Russian conscript units with 6 morale). This changed the melee odds from 3 – 2 Russians to 2 – 1 Germans on the next turn. Then Glenn reinforced the melee during the turn following and the odds went to some astronomical number where in the Russians collapsed like a paper tiger. But the Russians did what they were suppose to do. They tied down the Germans to let the American Rangers and Free French to catchup.
Now it's a game down to the wire. Can the American / French force commanded by Mike C. engage the Germans fast enough to prevent them from exiting the board and winning the game? The Russian POW's commanded by myself have fallen back into defensive positions, but really don't have sufficient firepower to prevent a concerted German effort to exit the remaining VP.
