    All,

If you recall, back during the week of Christmas, Bill Yuen hosted “Boxing Day ASL” at the rec room of his apartment complex. It worked out really well, lots of table space, plenty of light, and sound-proof walls. Well, if you look at the calendar you'll see that there are 5 Saturdays in July. Bill has offered to host another event at the same location on that 5th Saturday, July 31st.

    When: Saturday, July 31st 11:00AM to ?????

Where: Meridian Pointe Apts. 9500 Zelzah Ave, Northridge, CA 91325. (Corner of Zelzah and Plummer across the street from Cal Sate Northridge Tennis Courts.)

Directions: Enter the building Lobby and go straight past the pool to the “Zone” [RecRoom/Gym]. If the door is not open; call Bill at 818-400-7540 and he will let you in.

Format: We're going to run this just like a regular Game Day: Show up at the appointed hour, pair up, and play. We'll break at some point in the early afternoon for a group lunch.

It's a great venue and I will definitely be going. We're hoping to see some of our friends from the “distant north”. I will be driving up through O.C. If anyone would like to link up to save a little gas, email me at jfaikens@verizon.net.

I’m pleased to report we had seven members in attendance for our 5th Saturday ASL Day, hosted by Bill Yuen.

Rob Stai’s German’s defeated Dave Rosner’s Russians in “The Liberators”.

I’m not sure who suggested it, but the remaining five of us set up a three-on-two playing of the Red Barricades scenario “One Down, Two to Go”. In the end, the Russians led by Bill Yuen and I defeated the attacking Germans commanded by Mike Cirrincione, Eric Visnowski and Mike Soffa. It actually worked out really well and everyone had a lot of fun. Not something we’d try at a regular Game Day (lack of time and space) but this was a perfect venue for it.

We had lunch at Bob’s Big Boy, which was nice, and made a small detour after lunch to check out “Game Ogre”. It’s a small store but very efficiently arranged, with every space utilized. The owners and players were very friendly. We had dinner at the Bear Pit barbecue restaurant, which was outstanding. Awesome food with great service at very reasonable prices.

During the course of the day we snacked on some excellent baklava made and brought by Mike Soffa. Thanks Mike!

I want to thank Bill for hosting this event. It’s a great venue; a sound-proof room with plenty of tables, chairs and light. Thanks Bill! And by the way, the walk to the rec room via the pool on such a nice sunny day was not hard on the eyes, if you know what I mean.

    Regards,

    Jim
