I’m pleased to report that we had 8 members at our May 7th ASL Game Day at Gameology.
Rob Stai and Blair Bellamy paired up for “Messervy’s Menâ€, with Blair’s British defeating Rob’s Italians.
Dave Nicolas’ Russians fell to Jim Cotugno’s Germans in “Escape from Encirclementâ€.
Eric Visnowski and Mike Soffa paired up a playtest of the revised Melee Pack scenario “Rats of Hamichâ€, with Mike’s Germans defeating Eric’s Americans.
Dave and Blair were still up for another scenario after their respective games had finished, so they paired up in the new Starter Kit Expansion Pack scenario “Across the Borderâ€. In the end, Dave’s Poles fell to Blair’s Slovaks.
And Ed Esparza and I teamed up for the first time in the new Dispatches scenario “No Rest for the Wearyâ€. This is a monster of a scenario, really kind of large for a Game Day format. But the scenario is a sweeping, combined arms, late war slug-fest that we just thought looked too cool not to play. Ed realized after turn one that he had his Russians set up too far forward, and my Germans were able to sweep in a cut them up before he could pull back. A turn four breakthrough by a German half-track force appeared to seal the Russians’ fate, and we called it a German victory after that turn. I was pleased to finally get a chance to play Ed, who joined the Club at WCM XIV and has been playing voraciously since. We had a very fun game, and I’m looking forward to our next match-up.
And of course we adjourned during the afternoon for our usual lunch at The Hat. That just never gets old.
