We had a record 13 players for the May edition of our San Fernando Valley ASL Game Day at Emerald Knights.

Ed Esparza and Mike Soffa paired up for “Transylvania 6-5000”, with Ed’s Hungarians defeating Mike’s Russians.

Dave Nicholas took on Ken Tee and his nephew Kevin in the Dispatches scenario “Lack of Communication”. Dave’s Germans fell to Ken and Kevin’s Americans.

Rob Stai and Dave Rosner teamed up for the G-series paradrop scenario “A Desperate Affiar”, with Rob’s British defeating Dave’s Germans.

Kevin Kiff and Blair Bellamy squared off in the early war all-armor scenario “Uncommon Occurrence”, with Blair’s Poles defeating Kevin’s Germans.

And because their scenario got over fairly quickly, they set up “Butchers and Bakers” with Kevin’s Germans defeating Blair’s Brits.

Eric Visnowski’s Germans defeated Mike Cirrincione’s Americans in the new Journal scenario “Guns of St. Barbara”.

Later in the afternoon Mike Soffa and Dave Nicholas paired up as the Germans against Ed Esparza’s Americans in “Holding the Hotten Bridge”. The Germans came away victorious.

And in a playing that lasted all day and came down to the last CC phase, Bill Yuen’s Germans defeated my British in “Point to Make”. Although my Brits managed to gain control of the victory building on turn 5, I had to hold it, and Bill was able to pull out a win by driving me over the casualty cap. Great game!

We adjourned for our usual lunch at Larry’s up the street. After the store closed, about six of the survivors staggered over to Bob’s Big Boy for our traditional late-night dinner. It was another great day with an outstanding turn-out.

I just wanted to chime in here and add that the scenario I played with Mike C. was quite fun.[ Guns of St Barbara] Mike had me on the ropes for much of the game and it was by sheer luck I was able to take out a few American units in the last turn half to eke out a win. Mike played his usual fine game and we had many laughs amidst the groans. Glad to see you all there for a fantastic turn out! If things continue to be this successful we may need to lease a warehouse to accomodate all the players.
