Greetings ASL Fans;
Attendance was a little light for our Labor Day weekend Game Day at Gameology. But that was not unexpected, and it turned out just fine, with four members in attendance and two games played.
Eric Visnowski and Dan Plachta paired up in the heavy metal Schwerepunkt slug-fest “Seizing Gyulamajorâ€. EV’s King Tigers made a good try, but couldn’t sweep Dan’s IS2’s off the hill for victory. Both thought the scenario was well worth the effort and said they would play it again. I was pretty impressed as well, and moved this scenario onto my play-list.
Dave Nicholas and I paired up for a pre-arranged playing of “Circle of Doom†from Journal 9. Dave and I had decided last week to try the “Nuremburg†CG in the Journal, and this is the initial scenario. Dave took the Americans and I took the Germans. We agreed before the start of this scenario that if the score was 4-1 or better after the first scenario that the losing side would get the balance for the second scenario. As it turned out, Dave was a little aggressive with his initial recon force, and took too many casualties on turns two and three. He made a good try in the closing turns, but had to take too many risks due to his early loses, and came up short. The Americans captured 1 of the bonus building, and the Germans won the scenario and retained the other bonus building, making the VP score after the first scenario 4-1. Dave’s Americans will receive the balance in the next scenario.
For the scenario bonus, I took the 37L AA Gun, and Dave took the additional Sherman. Since the VC’s for the 1st scenario require the Americans to capture all the AA Guns, it seemed like a no-brainer to make them capture one more. On the American side, though the airpower is tempting, Dave correctly assumed I’d take the AA Gun, giving the Germans a total of 4; it’s likely a FB wouldn’t last long facing that kind of flak fire. And the extra Sherman gave his force some additional punch against the German armor reinforcements. We were both happy with our choices.
We enjoyed our traditional lunch at The Hat, and wrapped up when the store closed at 10:00 PM. It was a great day, as always.
Regards,
Jim
