We had an outstanding showing of 10 members for our newest SoCalASL Game Day at JJ’s Game Lounge in Chatsworth:

Dave Nicholas’ Russians defeated Eric Visnowski’s Germans in a very close and exciting game of “The Fields of Gold” from the Best of Friends pack.

Jeff Toney’s Germans fell to Blair Belamy’s Americans in a down-to-the-last CC playing of “Its Hardly Fair”.

Kevin Kiff’s Germans escaped to victory against Dave Perham’s Russians in “Ragnarok”.

At the last meeting of The Red Barricades Project I picked up a copy of C.H.’s Berlin: Fall of the 3rd Reich. I really wanted to play something out of that module, and Ed Esparza, who also has the module, was happy to oblige me. We recruited Mike Soffa and Bill Yuen, and went for the four player scenario “Over Open Sights”, which features the final assault on the Reichstag. Ed and Mike took the Germans against me and Bill as the Russians. After slaughtering each others troops all day, we decided to call it a draw at 10:30 PM with two turns to go. We all had a blast, and I would really like to play this one again, as either side.

For lunch we walked two doors down to the Italian Deli… what an outstanding choice that proved to be. Superb authentic Italian food which we enjoyed out on the patio. The only thing that could have improved that dining experience was if Veronica from Larry's was there to wait on us. :) JJ's is a great location. The manager Bob is an excellent guy, and the store features plenty of tables and excellent lighting. We couldn't ask for a better venue.

After we wrapped up our games, the survivors adjourned to Denny’s, because it was the only place open at the point, for a late dinner. What a great day with a great bunch of guys. And what a great month April has been for SoCalASL's Game Days: 8 at Gameology, a record 16 at Emerald Knights, and 10 at JJ's. Wow.

Just wanted to add to Jim's review that JJ's Game Lounge is a very congenial place to play–friendly folks, good lighting, and a tolerance for the occasional comment that follows an especially bad dice roll.
And I had to share a war story. On the last American turn I created a 6+1 during a Self Rally and then had him lead a half squad into a Melee so I didn't have to CX to get to the hex. He attacked alone(of course)and managed to kill an enemy half squad to put me over the CVP. Victory! And everything had seemed so dark the turn before. 6+1s–heroes you don't really care about…
