We had 8 members (half of them named Dave) at the November edition of our ASL Game Day at Emerald Knights:

Dave Nicholas and Mike Sofa paired up for the early war scenario “Failure to Communicate”. As Mike found out playing the Germans, you really need to attack hard on the left through open ground, and Dave’s French troops proved victorious.

In a saga that could be called “Three Daves and an Eric”, Eric Visnowski and Dave Rosner, playing the Russians, took on Dave Deresinski and Dave Reinking playing the Germans in the classic Deluxe scenario “To the Last Man”. They got through turn 5 and basically called it a German victory. Everyone had a ton of fun with that one.

Kevin Kiff brought the new historical module “Bloody Buron” by Lone Canuck and had some scenarios out of it he wanted to try. So he and I paired up for “Zoot Suit Boys”, with me taking the Canadians against his Germans. This is a small scenario and nothing went right for me from the very start. You can tell (especially with a small scenario) when it just ain’t gonna work for you. Kevin had a good set up, and my dice were terrible. By turn three the result was obvious. We decided not to waste any more time on it and called in a German win. That would give us enough time to try something else from the pack.

We chose “Haywire Communications”, another small one, and again the dice gave me the Canadians against Kevin’s Germans. My attack struggled at first, blundering into a minefield and eventually loosing 3 units to KIA’s. But my 9-2 led 3 elite squads through a six-factor minefield and drove forward into the flank of the German line, generating the first of 4 Canadian heroes that appeared during the scenario. The game came down to the last CC phase, where I rolled back-to-back snake eyes to secure the win. It was an exciting finish to a fun game, and Kevin and I had a great time.

We had our usual chilidog lunch over at Larry’s Hot Dogs, and the survivors trekked to Bob’s Big Boy #1 for our traditional late dinner and a lot of laughs. It was another great day of ASL!
