    Holiday Greetings ASL Fans;

    We had five members in attendance for the December edition of our ASL Game Day at Gameology. The store was packed with twenty-somethings playing in a “My Little Pony” card game tournament. But Kevin made sure to save table space for us.

    Eric “Vegas” Visnowski took the Germans against Blair Bellamy and new member Jim Svette as the Russians in the classic Deluxe scenario “Breakout”. In a battle that last all day Blair and Jim’s Russians were victorious.

    And Chip Wertenberger and I paired up for the VotG scenario “Terror at Twilight” from Journal 8. I was in the mood for some Stalingrad action, and this was one of the few VotG scenarios I had not played. We rolled for sides, and Chip got the defending Germans. Unfortunately he set up too far forward, and by turn 3 it was pretty obvious my Russians were going to be able to exit for the win. Because it was only 6:00 PM, we decided to salvage the remainder of the day and called it a Russian win. We then turned the scenario around, with me setting up the Germans. This second playing proved to be very close and exciting. But we ran out of time with two turns to go, and decided to call it a draw. This second playing was going to be really close; I wish we had time to finish. We both thought that it might be a little tough on the Germans, especially in a first-time playing. But both of us would happily play it again, as either side.

    We made our usual trip to The Hat for an always-excellent lunch. All in all it was another great Saturday of ASL

    One of the fun things about playing against Mr. Vegas is the interesting discussion that occurs. On turn two Eric announced, with a straight face, that he was pushing the 75L around a building. I suggested he was joking, but no, he wanted the AT relocated and thought he could do it that way. Fortunately, C10.3 states: “A Gun cannot be pushed using Bypass…” He accepted that ruling and promptly rolled low enough to get it into the building. During the next Russian Mph he got off an APCR shot with the same gun that took out an IS-2. The exchange got me thinking: Why aren't we allowed to Bypass buildings when pushing Guns? It could work the same as Vehicle Bypass, with the Gun located at a hex vertex. It wouldn't make things that much more complicated.
