We had an outstanding turnout, 12 members playing a total of 10 games, for the May edition of our ASL Game Day at Gameology.
John Lehman and Dan Plachta paired up for “Into the Grinding Millâ€. In an all-day slug-fest, Dan’s Japanese defeated John’s Chinese.
In another PTO game that lasted all day, Eric Visnowski’s Gurkas fell to Scott Thompson’s Japanese in the AP 9 scenario “To the Painâ€. In an interesting result, Scott lost *every single* Japanese unit, but still ended up with the win.
Dave Kocot and Chip Wertenberger paired up for “Elephants Unleashedâ€. In their fist game, Chip’s Russians defeated Dave’s Germans. They switched sides and went at it again, and this time Dave’s Russians defeated Chip’s Germans. Both thought this scenario is a little hard on the Germans, and the results seem to confirm that.
For the remaining players, it was Starter Kit Day. New players Mike Meeks and his son Kevin got in two games each:
Mike paired with Blair Bellamy for “Prelude to Festung Brestâ€, with Mike’s Americans defeating Blair’s Germans. In their second scenario, Blair’s Germans defeated Mike's Russians in “Breaking Breadâ€.
Kevin paired up with Nick Nicholas for two playings of “Retaking Viervilleâ€. Kevin’s Germans defeated Nick’s Americans in the first playing, and Nick’s Germans defeated Kevin’s Americans in the second.
And I paired up with another new player, Kyle Li, in two playings of the SK scenario “War of the Ratsâ€. In the first game Kyle’s Germans defeated my Russians. In the second, my Germans defeated Kyle’s Russians. Kyle is a student at UC Irvine, and will soon be returning to China. He promised he’d be back with us in October, if not sooner.
We enjoyed our usually fine lunch at The Hat, and wrapped up the day rather late (around 10:30.) It was an outstanding day with a lot of games getting played. It was great to have three new SK players as well.
