We had seven members present for the August edition of our ASL Game Day at Gamoelogy.
Blair Bellamy took on Mike and Kevin Meeks in simultaneous games of his favorite SK scenario “Ambush at De Hoopâ€. In one game, Mike’s Brits defeated Blair’s Germans. In the other, Blair’s Brits defeated Kevin’s Germans. Then Mike and Kevin paired up, with Blair supervising. In that match-up Mike’s Germans defeated Kevin’s Brits. All three guys then paired up for “Few and Far Betweenâ€, with Mike and Kevin’s Germans defeating Blair’s Dutch.
In an all day playing, Dave Kocot’s hidden SMC denied control of the final VC building, and gave his Slovakians a win over Eric Visnowski’s Germans.
And Scott Thompson and I paired up for the late war scenario “Where Iron Crosses Grow.†I’ve played this scenario a couple of times, and I think it’s pretty even. In this case, Scott had the attacking Russians and I had the Germans. I think I had a pretty good set-up. But you know, sometimes you play a scenario and things just don’t go your way. In my case, for example, 5 consecutive hits on two T34’s with a 6 TK, but no effect, plus 4 consecutive PF shots that missed two more T34’s with a 6 to hit. Yeah, it went on and on like that. I’m not taking away from Scott’s excellent play. He found a slight flaw in my set-up and exploited it to good effect, and kept the pressure on. By turn 6 it was obvious he only had to bayonet the wounded to for a victory, and we called it a Russian win. I’d still take this one as either side.
We made our usual trip to The Hat for lunch, and wrapped up around 9:30. It was another great day of ASL!
