We had 7 members, plus a cameo from Scott Thompson, for our November ASL Game Day at Gameology.

Eric Visnowski’s Japanese defeated Rob Stai’s Americans in “Coconut K” from the LFT Deluxe pack.

Blair Bellamy’s Germans squeezed out a last turn victory over Jim Svette’s Americans in the classic scenario “Bucholz Station”.

And Nick Nicholas took on me and Dave “Special K” Kocot in another classic: “The Cossacks Are Coming!” with Dave playing the Croatians, me as the Cossacks and Nick as the Partisans. This is a fun scenario. Nick and I had both previously played this with very close games, but it shows pretty tippy on the ROAR (about 65% pro-axis.) Nick was up for the challenge however, and we gave him the balance (upgrading two leaders.) The balance wasn’t enough however, and by turn 6 it was pretty obvious it was going to be an axis victory (though it would have taken at least 2 more turns to reduce the Partisans to mathematical elimination.) Personally, I think the Partisans need a couple of extra squads, and the scenario cut from 10 turns to 8. But we all had a lot of fun, and it was nice to break out one of the classics.

Jim Svette surprised me with a gift he purchased at a craft fair: a home-made dice tower. It was made out of “Barbie Pink” knit material and trimmed in lavender. We all had a good laugh (thanks Jim!) It actually served me quite well all day, and was both entirely quiet and extremely light weight.

We made our usual trek to The Hat for lunch and wrapped up around 9:30. It was another outstanding day for SoCalASL.
