We had 10 members in attendance for the August Edition of SoCalASL Game Day at JJ's in Chatsworth.

The new owners were hosting a miniatures tournament on Saturday, and that squeezed the number of available tables for us down to 2 six footers. Luckily not all of our guys showed up at once, and we were able to get two games on each of tables by emphasizing space conservation.

Blair Bellamy and Sal Palaez paired up for a re-match of “The Old Town”. They had played it at Emerald Knights last week, but screwed up some of the SSR's and wanted to try it again. In this second playing Blair's Partisans defeated Sal's Germans.

In a fairly quick game, Ed Esparza's Germans defeated Dave Rosner's Americans in “Helluva Patrol Leader” from AP11.

Dave had to leave after his game, but by then Dave Nicholas had arrived, and they paired up for “Cota's Last Stand”. Unfortunately this was over after one turn, when Ed's Americans broke all of Dave's Germans. So they called that an American win, and set up “The Marco Polo Bridge Incident”. This turned out to be Ed's day, as he won his third scenario of the day against someone named Dave.

Matt and Roman Cicero played some father and son Starter Kit ASL, with Roman's Brits defeating Matt's Germans on the last DR.

And I took the Russians against Eric Visnowski and Kyle Li's Germans in the early war Schwerepunkt scenario “Inherent Systematic Violence”. This proved to be a fortuitous choice, with the dice swinging first in my favor then in Eric's and Kyle's. There were too many spectacular ASL moments to count, and at various times each turn each side was sure they had the game in hand, only to have it slip away a couple of DR's later. In the end, with minutes before closing, we rushed to completion, and I forgot to advance my 10-2 leader upstairs for the guaranteed win. So we called it a German victory. But in a playing like that, trust me, we were all winners. It was one of the most exciting games any of us have ever played.

We made our usual trip next door to the San Carlo Deli for our usual excellent Italian lunch. When we wrapped up at 10 PM, eight of us made the trip over to The Habit for our usual late dinner. What an excellent Game Day it turned out to be!
