We had another solid, 10 player turnout for the January edition of our SoCalASL Game Day in Chatsworth on Saturday. This was our first meeting at All Ways Gaming, which is just about 2 blocks west of the now-defunct JJ's Game Lounge. I must say, the new location seems to be a good fit for us. We had plenty of room and were made to feel very welcome.
Our December meeting at Chatsworth saw the return of Herman Fretlohr, one of our founding members. This month saw the return of our first and only female member, Candice Juliano, who left us to move to Atlanta a number of years ago. She was back in the area for a pistol shooting match and took time out to join us for the day.
Blair Bellamy's Germans defeated Sal Palaez' Kiwi's in “Morning Peril” from the Operation Mercure HASL.
Dave Rosner's Americans defeated Dan Plachta's Germans in “Wise's War”.
Mike Soffa's Germans defeated John Lehman's Americans in “To Have and to Hold”.
And we had a double playing of “Road Warriors”, with me taking the Germans against Dave Nicholas' Russians, and Candice taking the Germans against Eric Visnowski's Russians. It's an interesting early war scenario that features an elite company of Germans attacking a town held by a couple of platoons of Russians. However the VC's require the Germans to kill all 5 of the supporting Russian tanks, even though their primary anti-armor force consists of 3 PSW 222's. In the end my Germans defeated Nick's Russians, and Candice's Germans defeated Eric's Russians. We all like this scenario a lot, and I would definitely play it again.
We had lunch at the “Munch Box” hamburger stand down the street, and made our usual trek to The Habit for dinner. All in all it was another great day of ASL!
