We had five members for the June edition of our ASL Game Day in Burbank:
Dave Franco and Sal Palaez paired up for a couple of SK Games. In the first, Sal's Germans defeated Dave's Americans in “Clearing Colleville”. In the second game, Dave's Americans defeated Sal's Germans in “Welcome Back”.
And that left me and Kyle Li playing the Brits against Larry Reinking as the Germans in ” Bedburg Bite” from Journal 11. I had played this once before and was happy to try it again. I took the infantry and Kyle took the vehicles. We came on strong with the infantry and got lucky right from the start, giving Larry some -1 shots that the dice didn't let him capitalize on. By turn 2 we had all three stone buildings and had achieved a breakthrough with the Kangaroos. Honestly, Larry didn't do anything wrong.. he played very well. It was just one of those scenarios where everything went right for me and Kyle and nothing went right for Larry. But, you know, those Reinkings always fight to the death, and to his credit, Larry stayed with it and kept fighting until he was mathematically eliminated. A lesser player would have thrown this one in a lot earlier.
We adjourned for our usual chili dog lunch at Larry's, where we had a surprise visit from Eric 'Vegas' Visnowski. Eric is still recovering from a quintuple by-pass, but he looked great and we were all delighted to see him. He regaled us with stories of his hospital experience while scarfing down what I suspect was a not-doctor-approved chili dog. It was nice to see him still on the green side of the grass. He promised he'd be back playing next month.
All in all it was a relaxed by very pleasant day.
