We had a solid 10 players for our 3rd Saturday Game Day in Irwindale. Normally we would meet at Emerald Knights, but they were booked, and we moved the show to our popular alternate location at Matt Cicero's office in Irwindale. This Game Day also marked the return of Eric Visnowski, absent for the past three months recovering from surgery.
Sal Palaez' Americans defeated Dave Rosner's Germans in “The Party Ends at Neunen”.
Blair Bellamy and Eric Visnowski paired up for a playtest of “Out of Harms Way”; a potential new scenario for MPIV.
Mike Soffa's Russians and Dan Plachta's Germans fought to a draw in “Lapitschi Fit”
And John Lehman took the Russians against me and Dave Lewis as the Germans in “Adolf's Amateurs”. This was Dave's first foray into full ASL, using bypass, concealment and Snipers, and he kept up quite well. John and I had both played this scenario before, and I have to say it's really become a favorite of mine. Dave took most of the infantry and pushed straight up the middle, while I took a platoon of infantry and both tanks on an end-run sweep to the left. The Germans lost their 8-0 leader on turn 3, which gave us a great deal of consternation, as it left us with just a 7-0 to manage 12 squads. But the dice gods smiled on us a turn later with a 7-0 leader creation.
This turn out to be an exciting and interesting playing, with a German squad eventually squirting through the Russian lines to grab a final victory building and sudden-death win.
Most of the games cleared fairly early, giving us time to walk through some potential new MPIV scenarios. The survivors grabbed a late dinner at BJ's.
Its always nice to see a big turn-out, though that's usually the case at Apex, which is definitely our most popular venue. Thanks Matt for hosting our event!
