We had a total of 12 players, including two new guys, in attendance for the August edition of our ASL Game Day at All Ways Gaming in Chatsworth.
Mike Soffa's Germans pulled off a 'last 1-1 CC for the win' victory against Eric Visnowski's Russians in “Liberation Day”.
Ed Esparza's Americans fell to Dave Lewis' Germans in “Sink's Encouragement”.
And we had two 3-players to accommodate our new guys…
Blair Bellamy took the Germans with new guy James Quinn against Sal Pelaez' Americans in “Retaking Vierville”. Sal's Americans took the win.
Dan Plachta took the British against John Leggat (returning from last month) and Dave Dennis (who played back in the early days of the Club) with the Germans in a training game of “3rd RtR in the Rain”. Dan's Brit's took the win.
That left me and Dave Nicholas to pair up for “Katyusha's Embrace”. The ROAR shows this one pro-Axis, so Dave agreed to take the Russians with the balance (an extra SU-76M) against my Romanian/German force. There's an interesting armor game between the 4 Russian SU-76M's and the German's two Marders. In our game, Nick threw his two SU-122's into the armor battle in support of two of his SU-76's. When the smoke cleared, both Marders were dead, but they took both SU-122's and two Bitches with them. In the meantime, Nick brought his rocket attack down on the Axis right, creating shell holes and rubble galore, and killing a couple of Romanian squads in the process. But by then, his infantry losses made it difficult to exploit his advantage. With time running out, we called this an Axis win.
We both really liked the scenario and had a great game. We were sorry we had to call it early. Both of us felt it's probably still a little pro-Axis, even giving the Russians the balance, but it's a lot of fun to play, and very exciting for both sides.
We made our usual trek to San Carlo Deli for lunch, and the survivors made their way to The Habit for our usual late dinner. It was a great day with a great turn-out and some very exciting games.
