We had six members, plus two new guys, for our December SoCalASL Game Day in Bellflower.
Dan Plachta's Germans defeated Scott Thompson's Brits in “Backs to the Wall”.
Eric Visnowski's Americans defeated Blair Bellamy's and Dave Nicholas' Germans in “Failure to Assimulate”.
And Peter Strand, who recently moved here from Chicago and was a club regular there, showed up to check us out and join the Club. He and I paired up for the revised version of “Riding the Coattail”. My Poles squeaked out a win against Peter's Yugoslavians. I think this is the first time I'd played the revised version of this scenario. It's very balanced, quick playing and fun. You can expect to see this one in a future WCM mini-tournament play list.
Because my game and Dan's games got over fairly early, we set up a playtest of “Out of Cowardice”; scheduled for the reprint of AoO. I had played this as the Yugoslavians against Special K last week, but we had to call our very closed game on the last turn. This time I took the Hungarians against Dan's Yugoslavians. Frankly it wasn't much of a playtest; Dan was rolling like crap and I was rolling pretty well. When you have green troops with an ELR of 1, you can't afford to roll high. We called this a Hungarian win after turn 3.
Our other new guy was Tracy, a long time SL player who lives right in Bellflower and wants to get into ASL. He watched the game between Dan and Scott and went to lunch with us. He promised he'd be back new month.
We had our usual lunch at Burger King, and the survivors adjourned to Chris & Pit's for our traditional late dinner. We had a great day and a lot of fun.
