We had seven members at our SoCalASL Game Day at All Ways Gaming in Chatsworth:
Eric Visnowski's Germans fell to Phil Seymour's Brits in “Going Against the Grain”.
Dave Nicholas' Germans defeated Peter Strand's Americans in “Danger Close”.
And Ed Esparza and I took the Germans against James Quinn's American Paratroopers in “Abandon Ship”.
This is one of my very favorite scenarios. Although it appears to be fairly simple, in reality, it's quite challenging for both sides. It's also extremely close; 82/83 on the ROAR and frankly, I'm not surprised. The Americans have to conduct a fighting withdrawal. They are well led and have 4 BAZ (2 '44's and 2 '45's.) The Germans have a solid force of mixed quality troops with decent leadership. However, their real hitting power is their 4 unopposed tanks. The problem is, though they have to keep the pressure on the para's, they have to be very weary of both the American FP and the BAZ's. Both sides have to be very cagey, and have think a couple of turns ahead. This scenario is really a test of skill. Both sides, particularly the Americans, have very little margin for error. James handled his troops with skill. Ed and I kept the pressure on, and managed to keep our tanks alive for the end game. Unfortunately, we ran out of time and had to call this one with 2 turns to go. It wasn't obvious who would win, so we called it a draw. It was a very challenging and enjoyable game for everyone.
San Carlo Deli was closed for the holiday weekend, so we traveled down the street for lunch at the “Munch Box”. The survivors trekked to The Habit for a late dinner.
