As you all know, we found out on Wednesday that JJ's would not be able to host us on their usual 4th Saturday. Luckily our newest location, The Guild House in Bellflower, had two tables available for us. We drew a solid 7 members.
John Lehman and Dave Nicholas paired up for “Slicing the Throat”, with Nick's Japanese defeating John's Brits.
Ed Esparza's Marines defeated Blair Bellamy's Japanese in “Bats Out of Hell”.
And Eric Visnowski and Scott Thompson took the attacking Americans against my defending Germans in the upcoming Journal 11 Deluxe scenario “Ramcke's Redoubt”. This is a big, 8 turn scenario with 25 American squads attacking 12 German 5-4-8's and 4-4-7's. Unfortunately, we ran out of time and didn't finish. EV agreed to try it again with me in a couple of weeks, with him doing a German set-up in advance.
For lunch we tried an Italian Deli that was within walking distance. It wasn't as good as San Carlo, but better than a poke in the eye. And they had plenty of tables (unlike San Carlo.) For dinner we adjourned to Chris N Pit's Barbecue for an excellent (and very affordable) dinner. Both meals were quite enjoyable.
This was my first trip to The Guild House (I was at ASLOK the last time we met there.) I have to say, I was quite impressed. The store is clean, spacious and well-lit. The owners, Charles and Monica, were very friendly and welcoming. They had product (including some wargames) on the shelves, and they have plenty of parking. They even have two cats, if you're into that sort of thing… and the cats didn't jump on the tables while we were gone. The lunch and dinner locations are within walking distance. Really, what more could you ask for? All in all, it was a great day.
