Hello,
I would like to say HELLO to everyone and introduce myself. I am new to the club, and I am eager to learn ASL. ASL is a game that I have wanted to learn to play for over 20 years, literally. Problem was that I never could find anyone else who was willing to play. Luckily, I have found this club.My question revolves around the different editions of the Beyond Valor modules. I have already purchased the ASL 2nd Edition rules published by MMP. Now, I need to get the Beyond Valor Module #1. Problem is that there are 3 editions of Beyond Valor. I see that Ebay.com has a few auctions for the Avalon Hill printed Beyond Valor boxes, which I assume are 1st Edition. Is there any good reason to try and find and/or spend the extra money to get a 2nd or 3rd edition of Beyond Valor? What do the different editions offer over the previous ones that I would be missing out on?
i am really confused, and seeing the price of these boxed sets, I DEFINATLY DON'T want to buy the wrong one! Can someone PLEASE give me some advice? Or does anyone in the club have a Beyond Valor Set for sale??
Thanks for your help, and I look forward to playing with y'all soon!!
Sincerely,

Welcome to SoCal ASL!
The three versions of Beyond Valor *are* very different in their contents, but any one of them will get you playing ASL. Let me see if I can remember exactly what is in each one.
Version 1 – Germans & Russians, blue Finns, 4 mounted boards, scenarios..
Version 2 – Germans & Russians, Finns now gray, 4 mounted boards, scenarios,Red Barricades HASL (map, counter, scenarios).
Version 3 – Germans & Russians, gray Finns, Starter Kit-style boards (8?), scenarios, additional scenarios.
Sorry, but I don't have exact counts handy one number of scenarios/boards in some of the versions. In my opinion, version 2 is the desired one because of the additional value of the Red Barricades HASL being included…but it is also the most expensice of the three versions, and can be difficult to locate through e-bay. Version 3 is more available and is a very good value also…you don't get Red Barricades, but you get double the number of maps (or a couple more, I forget at the moment) and a lot more scenarios.
Matt Cicero will have to confirm, but I *think* that the club still has a couple copies of version 3 in the club store.
A good place to read up on the contents of each version is Mark Pitcavidge's Desperation Morale website at http://www.desperation morale.com

ScottMay 17, 2009 at 6:15 pm #5701testuserMemberThank you so much for your quick reply Scott. Your information helped out greatly. It was exactly what I was looking to find out. I mostly wanted to make sure that the older versions would still work and were not incompatible since the later versions were released.
I will contact Matt Cicero to see if there is a copy available in the club store.
Sincerely,
