We had 8 members, plus Matt and Roman Cicero who came and joined us for lunch, for the August edition of our ASL Game Day at Emerald Knights in Burbank.

Dave Lewis and Dave Nicholas paired up for two games of “88's at Zon”. In the first game Nick's Americans defeated Dave's Germans. In the second, Nick's Germans defeated DL's Americans.

Blair Bellamy and Ed Esparza paired up for two games. In the first, Blair's Germans defeated Ed's Russians in “Marders not Martyrs”. For their second game, they chose “Tiger Blood”, with Blair's Germans defeating Ed's Americans.

Dan Plachta and Mike Soffa paired up for two games as well. In the first, Dan's Brits defeated Mike's Germans in “3rd RTR in the Rain”. For their second game, they took a crack at new Melee Pack playtest scenario Dan is working on named “Italian Caucausus”.

That left me and Eric Visnowski to take on a Deluxe scenario Eric had found and wanted to try for possible inclusion in a WCM mini-tournament. His choice was a Kevin Meyers design named “The Streets of Carpiquet” from the MwT pack. This scenario is played on Deluxe boards B & D, with two platoons of SS troops supported by a PaK40 defending two buildings against a company of well-led Canadians supported by two Sherman III's and a Crocodile. The Germans get to deploy 25% of their squads and get two squads HIP. In the first playing, my Canadians just barely squeaked out a victory over EV's Germans. We then turned it around and tried it again, with my Germans scoring an oh-so-slim victory over EV's Canadians. Wow, what a great scenario; a real sphincter tightener for both sides. Fun, tense, quick playing, and we think, quite balanced. We both would happily play it again as either side.

We made our usual trip to Larry's for chili dogs, served by Veronica. And the survivors gathered for an excellent late dinner at Bob's Big Boy. It was an outstanding and enjoyable day where everyone got in two games.
