We had 8 members in attendance for the August edition of our ASL Game Day at JJ’s Game Lounge.
Dave Rosner’s Americans defeated Mike Soffa’s Germans in the Paratrooper scenario “Lost Opportunitiesâ€.
Sal Palaez’ Brits pulled out a down-to-the-last-dice-roll win over Blair Bellamy’s Germans in the Elst scenario “Leave or Elstâ€.
Blair then paired up with a late-arriving Nick Nicholas for “Rimling Round Upâ€, with Nick’s Germans defeating Blair’s Americans.
And I took the German-Hungarian force against Fen Yan and Vegas Visnowski as the Russians in the Deluxe scenario “Streets Afireâ€. Eric and I had played this a while back with four players, and wanted another crack at it. The scenario involves a fight over a big 2 story building that is treated as a factory on each floor (think of a department store) in Buda, 1945. The Hungarians and some SS are trapped in the upper levels with a small but powerful Russian force (in this playing commanded by Fen.) Across the street there is a strong Russian reinforcing force, while an SS relief force is coming in from another direction. Both sides have to try to fight their way into the building, but leave enough of their force outside to keep the opposing forces from getting in. All the while there’s an interesting tank battle going on in the streets. The scenario has lots of exciting, close-in fighting from the very first Prep Fire phase on. In the end, we ran out of time, and called it a draw, but what fun we had! Kudos to Nor Cal’s own Chris Olden for designing this gem. We will definitely be playing it again.
We had our usual outstanding lunch next door at San Carlo Deli, and the survivors trekked once again to The Habit for an excellent late dinner. What a great day it was!
