We had five members in attendance for the August edition of our ASL Game Day at Gameology.

Chip Wertenberger and Eric Visnowski paired up for “Sting of the Italian Hornet”. In a burn-burner, all day playing, Chip’s Italians squeezed out a victory over EV’s Canadians. (For the record, we gave the Italians the balance.)

And I took on Blair Bellamy and Dave Nicholas in the Dispatches scenario “Task Force Continac”. This one has been on my play list for quite some time, and I’m glad I finally got to take a crack at it. I took the Germans against Blair (with the Partisans) and Dave with the Americans. They chose the smallest Partisan force, which sets up in the victory buildings on board 10. I left a screening force to slow down the on-rushing Americans while the bulk of my force concentrated on crushing Blair’s Partisans. It was over by the end of turn 3; the Partisan force had been eliminated before the Americans were able to put much pressure on the town. That left Dave with 11 American squads attacking into a village held by 18 German squads. Even superior American firepower was not going to overcome those odds, so we called it a German victory and moved onto something else. I’d like to try this one again. It’s a good 3-player scenario with four possible options for the Partisan force.

Something else turned out to be the all-infantry SK scenario “Joseph 351”, with Blair’s Germans facing my Russian escaped prisoners and Dave’s on-rushing (again) Americans. This turned out to be a really good choice for a fast, three-player scenario. Blair’s Germans went over the casualty cap with two turns to go, and we called it an Allied victory.

As always we enjoyed a nice lunch at The Hat. We called it a day right at 10:00 PM. It was another great day of ASL.

By the way; since August has 5 Saturdays, we will be returning to Gameology at the end of this month for a “special” ASL Game Day on August 31st
