We had five members, plus a cameo by Scott Thompson and three walk-ins, two of whom stayed to play, for the August edition of our ASL Game Day at Gameology:

Dave Nicholas' Americans defeated Dave Lewis' Germans in “Welcome Back”.

Blair Bellamy played an intro game of “Retaking Vierville” with walk-in and former Squad Leader player Fred Driver. Fred brought his friend Gordon, but Gordon didn't play.

Later in the day another walk-in, Scharif Mikhail stopped by (another former SL player). Since Nick's game with Dave had wrapped up by then, he played a couple of turns of an intro game of “Retaking Vierville” with Scharif.

In the meantime, Eric Visnowski and I had set up the AP scenario “Second City”. We were joined after lunch by Blair, when his game with Fred was completed. Blair and I took the Russians against EV's Hungarians/Germans. Blair and I thought the scenario was going nicely for us until the Germans arrived on Turn 3 with their two Panthers. By the bottom of turn 4 it was obvious our Russians were stopped cold, and EV was counter-attacking into blocks we already controlled, and we called this an Axis victory. Not to take away from EV's well-played game, but we probably should have checked the ROAR on this first. Turns out this one shows 8 v. 2 pro-Axis. That record was certainly confirmed in our game, which frankly wasn't close. Too bad, it's a fun scenario, and of course we had a great time playing regardless.

We made our usual trip to The Hat for lunch, and withdrew for dinner at Tommy's, which has opened nearby.
