We had a very solid 12 members in attendance for the December edition of our ASL Game Day at Emerald Knights.
Eric Visnowski’s Russians fell to Dave Derizinski’s Germans in the Schwerepunkt scenario “The Last Tigerâ€.
Dave Nicholas’ Russians defeated Glen Sellar’s Germans in one my favorite Red Barricades scenarios “Bread Factory #2â€.
Mike Cirrincione’s Poles took out Blair Bellamy’s Germans in “Coudehard Cashâ€.
Mike Soffa’s Slovakians defeated Ed Esparza’s Hungarians in the new Journal scenario “Last Minute Warâ€.
Dave Rosner’s Japanese fell to John Lehman’s Brits in the Dispatches scenario “Gin Drinker’s Lineâ€.
And Chip Wertenberger and I paired up for the new Journal 10 scenario “Rage Against the Machine.†Chip’s Russians made short work of my German force in a scenario that went south on me from the first dice roll. Since we still had some time, we set up “Ragnarokâ€. This second scenario went much better for me, but my Germans came up a half squad short of victory against Chip’s Russians.
Something interesting occurred during this second game. About half way through, a very attractive, thin, nicely dressed 20-something young lady came to our table and asked if she could sit and watch our game. Ah…sure… Introductions were made, and we were informed her name was Amy. She had come with her boyfriend to play D & D but didn’t like it; she wanted to check out a game that was a little more structured, rules wise. Yeah, little did she know. She actually seemed somewhat interested. Dave Nicholas came by and gave her a run-down of what the game was about. In the process, we found out that she was an aspiring actress. After a half hour or so she wandered off. We speculated quite a bit as to what that was all about. Dave deduced that she saw a gathering a middle age white guys and came by on the off chance one of us had a useful Hollywood connection she could exploit. Well, that was as good an explanation as any of us could come up with. Either that, or ASL has finally turned into the chick magnet we’ve all secretly hoped for.
We traveled to Larry’s for our traditional chili dog lunch served by the ever-delightful Veronica. And six of the survivors made their way to Bob’s Big Boy for a late dinner.
What a great day of ASL fun and friendship.
