We had a somewhat lighter than usual turnout for our December Game Day at Emerald Knights, with five members in attendance. It turned out to be a Kursk theme:
Mike Soffa and Phil Seymour teamed up for “Obian Highway†from Bounding Fire’s Crucible of Steel pack. Mike’s Germans fell to Phil’s Russians.
Eric Visnowski and Dave Nicholas took the attacking Germans against my Russians in the Deluxe Critical Hit scenario “Cry of the Valkyriesâ€. EV had suggested something Deluxe (what else?) and Dave and I were up for the challenge. I’d never laid eyes on this gem designed by Dave Lamb. The Germans get to secretly choose from three different VC options, and get a powerful force of elite infantry backed by two Tigers and two Panthers. The Russians get to secretly choose from three different options for their reinforcements, and get a pant-load of fortifications to stitch together and put some hurt on the Germans.
In the end, my hot dice carried the Russians to victory. It was a fun and interesting scenario with a lot of replayability. We all agreed we’d like to try this one again, as either side.
We made our usual lunch trek to Larry’s for chili dogs, and adjourned to Bob’s for dinner that evening. As always, it was a great day.

It's a combination puzzle and chess game as described by Jim. CotV offers choices for both sides which adds a little bit of a psyops factor to the game. This scenario can definitely go either way and can seem as if its on the edge of disaster for both players at any given time. This is a GOOD thing. Even with some hot dice on Jim's part, and his brilliant defensive set up, I still felt we were in the game and highly recoomend this to the DASL fans out there. Dust off those deluxe boards and give this one a try.
