We had 8 players plus a cameo by Matt Cicero for our pre-holiday Game Day at Emerald Knights on Saturday.
Among those in attendance was George Tournamire from France. George is working in Southern California this week and emailed me earlier in the month about getting a game in with us.
George’s Germans defeated Dan Plachta’s Americans in the AP scenario “Coal in Their Stockingsâ€.
Ed Esparza’s Gurkas defeated Eric Visnowski’s Japanese in “Scraggy†from the LfT Deluxe pack.
It was also a pleasure to see Dave and Larry Reinking. Dave is in town this week visiting family.
Larry paired up with Fen Yan for “Marders not Martyrsâ€. In their first playing Fen’s Germans fell to Larry’s Russians. They turned it around and tried again. In the second playing Larry won as the Germans over Fen’s Russians.
And Dave Reinking and I paired up for a playtest of a Pete Shelling PTO scenario, “Wildcat Strikeâ€. Chas sent this scenario over earlier in the week and asked if I’d take a crack at it. It is scheduled to come out in the next WO Pack and they felt it was just about done. I try to help out MMP when asked, and besides, my buddy Pete designed it, and I’ve never met a Pete Shelling scenario I didn’t like. So Dave took the defending Japanese against my attacking American 666’s supported by a couple of Shermans and an M8 Scott. I have to say, this scenario is a winner. Our game was very tense and exciting, and on the last turn every dice roll mattered. It came down the last CC DR, and by the slimmest of margins, Dave’s Japanese took the win. It left us both wanting to try this one again.
For lunch we made our usual trip to Larry’s, where we introduced George to a good ol’ American chili cheese dog served by the ever-lovely Veronica. George was also among the survivors for our traditional late dinner at Bob’s Big Boy. It was an outstanding day for all who were there.
