Several times recently I have been asked about where I got the bags that I use to store my 5/8” counters.

They are 1.5” X 2”, 2 mil Clear Reclosable Bags. I ordered them on-line from RoyalBag.com; and paid $4.15 per case of 1,000 in March of 2006. I ordered two cases (2,000 bags total). At that time, the cost of the bags was $8.30, plus $10.50 shipping and min. order fee; $18.80 out-the-door for a life-time supply.

I used about 1,200 bags for my system, but I have double sets of almost everything (plus spare vehicles from HASL modules). They are the same bags that Paul and Rob use. They hold six 5/8th” counters perfectly. The 2 mil thickness is thick enough that they don’t tear easily, but light enough so as to not take up an excessive amount of space or weight.

And the extras will come in handy if at some later point you decide to pursue a career in narcotics trafficking.

For those who haven’t seen my system, I have every 5/8” counter I own organized in one 12” X 12” X 3” box. I was able to reduce the size of my set by six 3701 Planos. I recommend also checking out Rob Feinstein’s system, which is slightly different and more compact than mine. Paul uses them in an entirely different way, and I’ll let him describe how he does it. Paul’s system is probably ideal for players who have not yet accumulated huge numbers of 5/8” counters.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I (and I’m sure Rob and Paul) will be happy to give you any tips or recommendations based on our experience.

    Regards,

    Jim

Interested to hear about Paul's setup.

I'm just about at the point of making
the change to dime bags. :)

Jim's set is quite nice (as well as Rob's). The way I group mine is by nationality, with the vehicles part of the infantry trays. However, I do the “odd” thing by grouping all my SMC and SW together in one tray for all nationalities, so that way I have enough room for just MMC and vehicles in the 3701's I use.

If you are interested in the baggies, they are quite cheap. I believe I purchase mine here:

A box of 1,000 bags is only 4 bucks before shipping, so it's a minimal investment for those who want to give it a try.

If i get a chance, I'll upload a few pictures of them (and hopefully Jim will too) I like Jim's and haven't given up on the idea of switching to a stack vehicle approach as well, just gotta find the right tray =)

    Mike and all,

Being a complete Luddite, I'm still trying to figure out how to post photos to the forum. In the meantime, I will have my set at the BBQ (as will Rob Feinstein) for anyone who might be interested.

I looked into the two sources mentioned and basically they have similar pricing till you buy about 10,000 baggies. Then , Paul's place nets you a 10% discount.

If there is enough interest, I would place an order for a bunch of baggies and then sell them off in 1K lots or so. Pricing I saw works out to be about $6.00-$7.00 per 1,000 baggies if we buy in bulk.

Lemme know if there is interest and we can see about an order.

Arrgh! I just spent *months* on making custom labels for my AFVs and sticking them onto coin envelopes. Now my quest is to find a big enough yet small enough box to hold them all.

Jim's system is very nice and elegant, but I like having a color label on each bag with a pic of the counter as well as its full name. If I ever assemble the damn thing I'll be sure to bring it to a meeting for inspection/cheers/jeers.

Coin envelopes also work very well for vehicle storage and are significantly more common than dime bags. I have seen some very nice sets at ASLOK that use them.

The only drawback is that they take up much more space.

As far as posting pictures, I'm still trying to see if we can load them onto the website for the forum purposes. I know if you have an account with one of the many free image hosting sites, you can load them there and then use the img tags to reference the image in your post.

We are still testing a gallery type process which would allow us to post pictures in a more controlled environment to allow for these kinds of situations.
