SOCALASL'ers…
Yesterdays ASL fest at Emerald Knights drew a light crowd of four regulars, a guest star
and a cameo appearance.DATE LINE CROATIA !
J 107 Operation Schwartz
Blair Bellamy and Dan Plachta battled away in Cajnice ,Croatia in the Journal 7 scenario ” Operation Schwatrz”.
This is a small , mostly infantry clash that finds the Croatians tasked with pushing their way through a cordon of Bosnian
Partisans on half boards 39 and 50. Dan played the Croatian force and fell to accurate small arms and Molotov cocktail
defensive fire from Blairs Partisans.Since they completed the game quickly, [ this is a FAST playing scenario] Dan and Blair switched sides and replayed
it with the same results: a Partisan win. I spoke to Blair later in the evening and his thoughts were that the attacker may
need the balance , an additional leader to even thingd up. Blair may write an AAR for the club website so keep your eyes
peeled .ASL 33 The Cossacks Are Coming
Ray Wolozyn [ our guest star / occaisional out of state visitor ] joined Glenn Sellar and me for another
Croatian firefight in the old -school scenario The Cossacks Are Coming. TCAC is classic ASL in the sense that it is a
4 board, 10 turn , 40 plus unit bash. Ray defended with a highly motivated Partisan force against Glenns' Cossack
cavalry and my Croatian garrison force. The object here is to remove a Partisan force that is busily interdicting the road
net . [ The long axis of the road on board 2] Essentially, the Partisans are caught in the middle of the attackers forces,
and in order to win must be able to apply 18 FP to the road at game end.The game saw many close in firefights and plenty of exciting CCs, per the expected in a game with low FP units.
We also witnessed quite a few aces [ two DRs] and maybe 6 heroes were created, along with battle hardening etc.
At the end of 7 or 8 turns , with 2 or 3 to go, we called it a draw [ Ray had a posiional advantage ]
All considered this was a great scenario choice for 3 players and proved to be quite fun.Its definitely on my play again
list. [ Be advised there is errata on this scenario but it did not affect our playing]We were glad to see Bill Yuen who dropped by to say hello in the afternoon. Unfortunately Bill didn't have time to play
but indicated he would rejoin us when possible. Great to see you Bill, I hope to see you at another game day soon.As usual, it was another great day of ASL with great folks!
Regards, Eric Visnowski
