    Hello Folks,

Yesterday's game day at Emerald Knights turned out to be a great day for ASL !
We had a total of 6 players show up for some cardboard combat. The cast of characters
included, Mike Cirrincione who co-starred with Dan Plachta in FRF 19 – About His Shadowy Side.
Mike was the Russian player and Dan the German as they battled for real estate on boards 17 and 19 [ IIRC ]
The game looked to be a pitched battle as Dan and Mike bled each other white but Dan drove home the win.

The next feature included one of the youngest players in the club, and a very skilled player, Stephan Tourville,
with special guest star Kevin Kiff, a new / old player that joined us at EK.This was Kevin's first venture at a
SOCALASL game day and I think Kevin had a great time as the two faced off in OA 17, Panzers Forward
from Issue #2 of Out of the Attic [ the latest issue btw] Stephan commanded the German units to victory over
Kevin's defending French in a game that seemed to result in a massive CC battle . There were so many blue
counters at small arms length that the board seemed to have grown a water obstacle overlay.

We hope to see Kevin again soon.Welcome aboard !

    The final battle in the triple feature starred Dave Nicholas, whom I embarassed into an appearance [}
at EK and myself. Dave and I ended up playing a truncated game of J 124 Cobra Kings, a deluxe scenario
Journal 8,the latest Journal issue. Yeah, I know, Visnowski playing deluxe? Again? DAMNED RIGHT!
Dave had the American side and I the Germans. Cobra Kings is one wicked fast scenario, and if you look
at it you'll see why.The American is tasked with clearing all German mmc's off two of the boards. The Ami's
have the tools to do this but very little timeThis scenario requires a very aggressive American player and an ammo
    bag of luck.

Our playing of Cobra King saw the return of Baby Jesus. Yes , He was back and in a mood to kick ass!.
Luckily for me it wasn't my ass getting kicked!. Virtually every DR I made caused a MC. This with an LV of 2 plus TEM.
On Dave's part he rolled 9 -10-11 on almost every single MC.The results were devastating, ELR failure on every roll.
Then I called several ace-deuce rolls and a couple of very timely aces. All we could do was laugh. But I have a suspicion
Dave didn't see the humor in the situation. It became a parody of the game and was reminiscent of the initial appearance
of the Baby Jesus riff some years ago. At the halfway point I was on the counter attack with armor reinforcements and
Daves force infantry in shambles, but armor intact, Dave called the game. I of course had to agree. The dice were very unkind
to Dave. I recommend Cobra Kings for some good DASL action but I urge you to take a very close look at the SSRs.
Everything depends on the Americans' opening move in this one.

That is it for the game playing. For a late lunch we went to a place Dave Nicholas knew about. The place is called
Larry's . Larry's is a little greasy spoon about half of a mile east of EK on W. Burbank blvd. Its a burger joint with
some really good comfort food.Im thinking this is the new official lunch spot!. We all ended up eating Chilly dogs.
Larry's has out door seating and it was COLD out there! And yes I know its chili, sheesh.

The scenarios were all wrapped up by 7:30Pm and afterwards, Dave , Dan and myself went to Bob' s Big Boy
to harass the waitresses and have dinner. As usual the food was fine.

That's it for now. I eagerly look forward to seeing you all soon!

I'd like to send out a big thanks to all the guys from Saturday at the E.K. venue. You really know how to make a new guy feel welcome! Truly a great bunch of guys. It's been quite a while since I had so much fun in one place. Also, thanks Stephan for the experience. It felt a bit like I was watching an ASL guru in a series replay watching your moves. Semper fi, Mac!

    Kevin
