Greetings ASL Fans;
We had 8 members and a cameo from Matt Cicero for our February Game Day at Emerald Knights.
Dave Derezinski’s Germans defeated Dan Plachta’s Brits in the Friendly Fire scenario “War Ensembleâ€.
Kevin Kiff’s Germans defeated Dave Rosner’s Americans in the OAF scenario “Firefight Before Breakfastâ€.
Vegas Visnowski’s Germans fell to Blair Bellamy’s American in a very close playing of the OAF Deluxe scenario “Attack at Martinville Ridgeâ€.
And Nick Nicholas and I paired up for “Cavalry Brigade Modelâ€. This one has been on my play list for a long time. As the name suggests, it includes cavalry, and I could never get anyone interested. But Nick was up for the challenge. We rolled for sides and I got the mounted German force of 5-4-8’s backed by a PzII and a PzIII. Nick got the defending Russians. The situation is interesting. The terrain is mostly wooded, and the Russians have to secretly select a hex as their “rally pointâ€, but then have to set up on a completely different board and fight their way back to it, with the Germans in hot pursuit. Our game was quite close, and as it turned out it came down to the final Close Combat, with my Germans coming out victorious. The scenario was quite fun, and we both thought it had a lot of relayability. I definitely want to try this one again.
We had our usual chili dog lunch at Larry’s, served by the ever lovely and charming Veronica. The survivors made their way to Bob’s Big Boy for our traditional late dinner. It was a great warm-up for next week’s West Coast Melee.
