We had 8 members for our SoCalASL Game Day in Burbank on Saturday:

Eric Visnowski's Russians defeated Dave Rosner's Germans in the Schwerepunkt heavy metal slugfest “Konrad Three”. The scenario looks very fun. I've put it on my play list for WCM.

Dave Nicholas' Germans defeated Sal Pelaez' Slovaks in “Rebels Without a Pause”.

Larry Reinking's Germans defeated Ric Hammond's Russians in “All the Stops”.

And John Lehman and I paired up for one of my favorite scenarios, “Audacity”. Since I've played this scenario a number of times I gave John his choice of sides, and he took the defending Germans. This scenario has a reinforced, elite French company supported by a couple of tanks. They start with one platoon fairly far forward, but unsupported. They have a second platoon that has to set up in a road. The Germans get a couple of second line platoons and a 37L AT Gun, plus two elite squads with a 9-2 set up to ambush the French road group. EC's are Mud and terrain is Alpine Hills, small important twists that make the scenario interesting. One of the things I like about this scenario is its pacing. For each of the first three turns the French get a platoon of reinforcements. The action builds steadily as the Germans get pushed into the victory area. The action hits high gear on turns 4-6. John had a solid set-up and played a hell of a game. By turn five I was pretty sure I wasn't going to capture enough buildings, but after a ferocious final turn, and a little luck, my French prevailed. John is one of my favorite opponents, and we had a great game. If you want an exciting, early war scenario that always comes down to the last turn, “Audacity” is an excellent choice.

We had our usual chili dog lunch at Larry's, which now features new tables and an indoor eating area. All in all it was an awesome day of ASL!
