We had a very solid 10 member turnout for our February 2nd Game Day at Gameology. We got off to a slightly rocky start though; there was a big card tournament going on when we arrived, and it looked like our table space was going to be pretty limited until they cleared out. But the owner, Kevin, assured us they’d be on their way by about 1:00. So we paired up, picked scenarios and pulled counters. Three games got underway in the limited table space we had at our disposal. The remaining games launched shortly after 1:00.
John Lehman and Jim Cotugno paired up for “Its Hardly Fair†from Journal 10, with Jim’s Americans defeating John’s Germans. I’ve played this scenario, and seen two other playings at this point. All were American wins. I like this scenario, but I’m starting to think it’s hard on the Germans.
Mike Soffa’s Germans fell to Chip Wertenberger’s Americans in another J10 scenario: “Margeret Mixerâ€.
Jeff Toney’s Russians defeated Ed Esparza’s Germans in a down to the last dice roll playing of the WO Pack scenario “The Heat is Onâ€.
Eric Visnowski’s Germans and Dave Nicholas’ Russians duked it out in the classic scenario “Silasian Interludeâ€. Scott Thompson and I were playing on the next table over. We’d never heard two guys complain so much about how they couldn’t possibly win. First, EV on turn one saying he’d lost too much to win, then Dave on turn two complaining he was being chopped to pieces. All in good fun of course; just two old friends having a hell of a good time. In the end, EV’s Germans pulled out the win.
And I was pleased to pair up with Scott Thompson for “The Sangshak Redemptionâ€, also from Journal 10. Scott’s been tied up a lot with school and family obligations, so he hasn’t played as much in the last couple of years as he’s used to. It was good to see him and get a game in. We chose this scenario for a couple of reasons; it’s new and I had never played it, and it’s a straight forward infantry fight where both sides get some pretty good troops and have to both attack and defend. Scott took the Indian/Gurkas and I took the Japanese. In the end, my 10-1 leader with held onto the only stone building with two 4-4-8 squads with LMGS against a very powerful Guraka attack. That 10-1 won it for me, he passed countless morale checks over the last two turns and never failed. If he had, Scott’s troops would have carried the day.
We both liked this scenario a lot; fun, quick (we played in a bout 3.5 hours) and simple. I see this as a nice tournament scenario.
We made our usual trip to The Hat for lunch, and actually cleared out a little earlier that usual, about 8:45.
I got a call around 10:00 PM from the store owner Kevin. Someone left a folder with some laminated sheets in it. It had “Jim A†and my cell phone number written on it, and Kevin assumed it was mine. It isn’t. Someone used it to write my info down on. Kevin is holding the folder in the store’s lost and found. Please let me know if sounds like yours.
