October 20, 2010 at 4:11 am #5762King ScottMemberHey y'all… this offer is back for 2010:
The “Tough Economy” Special Offer is Back!!
We've run these specials twice in the past couple years, but we are STILL hearing from gamers who are out of work and we all know the economy is still pretty difficult. So, we are going to offer our tough economy special once again. Here are the details of the offer:Many in the gaming community turn to games as a welcome respite from their day jobs, using money from those day jobs to buy the games. In these difficult times, some of our loyal customers have lost their day jobs. No jobs and no cash to buy games is a morale buster. Now, we can't help in the new job department, but one thing we can do is at least help you continue to enjoy the games while you are job hunting.
So, if you did not participate in our Tough Economy Special offer in 2008 OR 2009 and have lost your job since November 30, 2008 and remain unemployed, if you will provide verification of such status to Tony (a_curtis@sbcglobal.net) or the office folks by mail or phone or e-mail, we will send you TWO FREE IN-STOCK GAMES of your choice. Play them, Enjoy them, and know that we will keep this information private and wish you only the best for a quick recovery.
We hope you guys find this special helpful.I hope none of us is unemployed, but if you are… lucky you! Free games!

ScottOctober 20, 2010 at 6:41 am #5763King ScottMemberWell, first let me say that I'm sorry to hear you're not working.
BUT, you get some free games! If you want a fantastic 2-player game, check out Twilight Struggle. I can't recommend this one enough. Truly awesome game, great theme, very replayable.
I always recommend Combat Commander (I think CC:Pacific is the best in the series)… great game, good gateway game (it led me to ASL). Good for introducing people to wargaming.
Those would be my two highest recommendations, but there are other good ones from GMT, depending on what period/history you're into. Pretty much any of their card-driven games are going to be fun, I'd wager.

I'm not sorry!!! I get to go to school full time and polish my trophy-husband skills!!!
Combat Comander Pacific caught my eye…I'll have to check out the twilight game you recommend, or perhaps the Combat Commander Meditteranean would be a good second game.
Is there anything that you've had your eye on? I am pretty ASL centered, so my knowledge of other games is extremely limited. I am mainly into WWII for my gaming interests.

ScottOctober 20, 2010 at 3:40 pm #5765Jim AikensKeymasterScott and all;
I just picked up “Here I Stand”; GMT's remake of the 70's SPI game “A Mighty Fortress”. It's a multi-player game strategic game that covers the period of the Reformation (specifically 1517-1555). Players take of of six countries (England, France, Hapsburg Empire, Ottomans, Papacy and Protestant Germans), and form and reform alliances to acheive their mutually exlclusive victory conditions. I have the original, and can't wait to get into this one.
The other game that just came off of pre-order is “Paths of Glory”; GMT's all time best-seller. It's a strategic level card-driven game on W.W.I. I already have “Pursuit of Glory” which is it's sister game set in the Middle East during the same period. I've played that game to death with Candice, and I'm looking forward to trying the original.
I've found GMT's production values to be very high; lots of designer notes and background info.
October 21, 2010 at 12:28 am #5767King ScottMemberScott, just a note: If you're looking at CC:Meditteranean, you'll need CC:Europe to play it.
Jim: I have Paths of Glory… if you're itching to play, I could use some help learning the game.
October 21, 2010 at 4:42 am #5769King ScottMemberThanks, Stephan…I saw that Mediterranean was not a stand alone. Right now it looks like I will be going for Combat Commander Pacific and Paths of Glory…but a couple of the Pirate and Age of Sailing games look interesting as well. Of course, it all depends on what they are willing to let me have.

If you're thinking of one of the GMT pirate games, “Blackbeard” is very good. It's a good multi-player family game. I've often played it with my daughter and her boyfriend.
October 21, 2010 at 1:00 pm #5770King ScottMemberYeah, Blackbeard is one that I am looking at…also looking at Empire of the Sun…can't make up my mind!
Semper Fi!
