Well, our ASL Game Day at Gameology started 2013 off with a bang. We had 11 members slugging it out in 6 different scenarios. That’s the best attended Game day we’ve had at this venue since we launched our Game Day in Burbank in the summer of 2010.

Eric Visnowski’ Sons of Nippon defeated Dave Plachta’s hard charging Marines in “Deception at RJ 177.”

Jeff Toney’s Slovakians fell to Rob Stai’s Germans in “Retrained and Rearmed.”

In “An Italian Civil War” Blair Bellamy’s Italians defeated John Lehman’s Italians.

Chip Wertenberger and Jim Cotugno paired up for the classic Kursk scenario “Dress Rehearsal”. Jim’s Russians and Chip’s Germans slugged it out all day, and finally just ran out of time, and called the game a draw.

Dave Nicholas took on the job of seeing if we could adapt the “Son of Squad Bleeder” series in Journal 10 for a mini tournament at West Coast Melee. To that end, he and Eric Visnowski played the first two installments, but were disappointed with the results. So Dave and I paired up for “Badinov’s Boys”, with Dave taking the Germans against my Russians. By turn 3 it was pretty obvious my Russians had scored a decisive victory and we called it a game.

Since Ryan Vosnack had showed up in the mid-afternoon, we decided on a three way playing of “Its Hardly Fair”, with Dave Nicholas and Ryan taking the Germans against my American paratroopers. We ran out of time and decided to call it a draw. We were all pretty impressed with the scenario and all agreed we'd like to try it again.

We made our usual trek to The Hat for an excellent group lunch. In all, it was a awesome start for SoCalASL in 2013!
